In 2017, we stumbled upon a lovely chocolate factory, “Mayan Monkey Mijas” in Spain, and we remember our children’s excitement about the idea of making their own chocolate. We fell in love with the idea of using ethically sourced ingredients to produce delicious artisanal chocolate and enabling other children (and adults!) to enjoy that experience. 

With the help of our friends from Mijas, “Dr Choc’s Windsor Chocolate Factory” was established in April 2019 in the home of royalty, to share the chocolate-making experience with all. They gave us all their secrets of making delicious chocolates and how to establish a chocolate factory in the United Kingdom. Their head chocolatier has since taught our team the art of making barks, bonbons, dipped fruits, salted caramel bars and teaching others the same techniques.

As medical doctors who specialise in children, we are also interested in the unexpected health benefits of chocolate. Chocolate is known to have medicinal effects –being an antioxidant, cardio-protective and neuroprotective properties as well as being a luxurious food to enjoy. According to ancient Mayan texts, cocoa is of divine origin and is considered a gift from the gods.
