Prepare to be amazed!

Salisbury Cathedral has Britain’s tallest spire as well as the biggest cathedral close and largest cloisters and is one of the finest medieval cathedrals in the United Kingdom. Built in just 38 years, it is unusual because it is almost entirely one unique architectural style - it truly is a gothic masterpiece.

Book your space on a thrilling tower tour and climb 332 steps in easy stages through hidden roof spaces to the base of the famous spire while you learn this ancient building’s fascinating secrets. Admire spectacular aerial views of the inside of the cathedral on your way up, view graffiti created by craftsmen many centuries ago and then enjoy the incredible panoramic views over the city and surrounding countryside from the top. We promise you won’t be short of fantastic selfie opportunities!

Inside the cathedral you can inspect the best preserved of only four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta parchments (which inspired the American constitution) in a family friendly interactive exhibition.

Believe it or not you can also find the world’s oldest working mechanical clock here – make sure you track it down during your visit!

The Refectory Restaurant with soaring views of the spire is a perfect place to relax after your explorations offering traditional English cream teas, scrumptious snacks or delicious hot meals depending on your appetite.

'Salisbury Cathedral is the single most beautiful structure in England, and the Close around it the most beautiful space' Bill Bryson - Notes from a Small Island

Only an hour and a half from London and 20 minutes away from Stonehenge, make sure you add Salisbury Cathedral to your ‘must see’ list today!

Kaart en instructies

Bewegwijzering

Salisbury lies on the intersection of the A30, the A36 and the A338 and is at the end of the A343, A345, A354 and A360. If you are using a GPS to navigate, the Cathedral’s postcode is SP1 2EJ.  From London, take the M3 then the A303 and the A345, it is approximately a 1½ - 2 hour drive.

Please note that if you are planning to drive into the cathedral close in a campervan or minibus, there are height and width restrictions on the gates.

Limited parking is available within the Close at a fixed cost for the whole day (this includes disabled car park spaces). You will also receive a voucher for a free cup of tea or coffee from our Refectory Restaurant and 10% off in the Cathedral shop if you park here.

If you are visiting for a shorter period of time you will find the park and ride sites or city centre car parks more economical.

The closest parking to the Cathedral Close are at the Old George Mall and Lush House car parks.  The Central car park is a 10-minute level walk away. Alternatively you can use one of the five Park and Ride sites just outside the city.

Instructies voor openbaar vervoer

Two main rail routes intersect at Salisbury so getting here by train from London, Bath and the West Country is easy. The cathedral is less than a 10-minute level walk from the railway station – just follow the signs (or look for the spire – you cannot miss it!) Or, if you are short of time, hail one of the cabs outside the station.

South West Trains operate direct trains from London Waterloo to Salisbury (journey time 90 minutes).

First Great Western run routes from Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Salisbury has regular bus services from Southampton, Bournemouth, Ringwood, Swindon, Marlborough, Andover and Amesbury as well as coach services from Bath, Oxford, Brighton, Bristol and Cambridge. All stops are in the city centre which is an easy level walk to the cathedral.
