Over

The Visitor Centre is now open from Wednesday to Saturday, 10am-5pm. Tickets are strictly limited and you will need to book in advance for the Visitor Centre (the bridge is always open free of charge to all pedestrians and no pre-booking is required to cross).

The visitor centre will be operating at a reduced capacity with social distancing measures and a one-way system in place.

Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre tells the story of the 'ornament of Bristol' and the people who built, maintain and treasure it. Explore the turbulent history of the ‘first love’ of famous British engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel through an award winning exhibition packed with family activities and staffed by knowledgeable volunteers.

The Visitor Centre can be found in Leigh Woods on the North Somerset side of the bridge, a short walk from Clifton Village where you’ll find bus stops, pay and display parking, boutique shopping, cafes and coffee shops. Entrance to the Visitor Centre is free, although donations are appreciated.

Free tours for families and individuals are held at 3pm every Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday from Easter to October and begin on the Clifton (Bristol) side of the bridge. Ticketed tours of the ‘secret’ vaults inside the Leigh Woods abutment are available on selected dates and must be booked in advance through the bridge website. Groups may book private tours at any time, with a coach drop-off point available on Observatory Road, BS8 4AW (there is a weight limit of 4 tons so coaches may not cross the bridge).

Bewegwijzering

Our Visitor Centre can be found at Bridge Road, Leigh Woods, Bristol, BS8 3PA - but please note that the Visitor Centre does not have a dedicated car park. Parking on-street is extremely limited but free around the Visitor Centre in Leigh Woods, although there is a £1 toll charge to cross the bridge in a vehicle if travelling from Bristol. Visitors are kindly requested to park with consideration to our neighbours and advised to observe the parking regulations.

Parking in nearby Clifton Village is pay and display. We recommend this option as it is much easier to find a space and park safely. Use postcode BS8 4AW for your satnav (this will take you to the bridge approach at the junction of Observatory Road and Sion Hill on the furthest side of Clifton Village; it's best to park before you reach this end point). It is a short walk across the bridge to the Visitor Centre (there is no charge for pedestrians).

Instructies voor openbaar vervoer

From Bristol City Centre, catch the No. 8 bus from Bristol Temple Meads (BTM) railway station or at the Centre Promenade opposite the Hippodrome theatre (near the statue of Neptune.) Get off at Clifton Village or at Christ Church, Clifton. This bus journey is timetabled to go roughly every 10 minutes and will take approximately 24 minutes.

The Bristol In-Sight City Sightseeing bus operates between February and December. Hop on the open-top bus at Bristol Temple Meads, near Bristol bus station or near Bristol City Centre. The nearest stop to the Bridge is stop 8. You can buy tickets for the bust at any stop, buy them in advance online - or get them from our shop, the Tourist Information Centre or many hotel receptions in the city at a special discount rate.
