The Rose of Hungerford is a purpose-built 55’ long wide-beamed passenger boat, of traditional design and decoration, owned by the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.  She is run entirely by fully-trained volunteers so all the funds raised can go to the charity.  The Rose offers regular public trips and private charters along the Kennet and Avon Canal for a maximum of 50 passengers.

The boat has picture windows down both sides and at the front so passengers can enjoy the wonderful views.  These windows slide open when the weather is warm and sunny, but if it is damp or chilly the boat is fully enclosed with full central heating if necessary.

All public trips start and finish at Hungerford Wharf.  Public trips last for 1½ or 2½ hours; the 2½ hour trips go through Dun Mill Lock and Wire Lock and then turn round, and the 1½ hour trips just go through Dun Mill Lock before turning.  With the longer trips it may be possible disembark briefly at Wire Lock, depending on the conditions, in order to enjoy a short walk and watch The Rose going through the lock and turning.  The crew are very happy to demonstrate how the lock works and let passengers help if they would like to.

Dogs are welcome on the Rose subject to the Skipper’s permission on the day, after ensuring there is no objection from other passengers.  This decision has to be made at the last minute and cannot be booked in advance.

There is a fully licensed bar/galley on board serving hot and cold drinks and snacks.  There are also about 6 special Cream Tea Cruises each year when passengers are treated to a delicious cream tea from the Tutti Pole in Hungerford.  These get booked up very quickly!

The Rose also offers Private Charters for a wide range of events.  These can be longer or shorter than the public trips and the crew can alter the internal layout to suit.  From musical events and concerts to poetry recitals and lectures; university reunions to children’s parties; wine tastings to quizzes; the list is long and the boat can fit most requirements.

The Rose also has an electric wheelchair lift to help wheelchair users or people with limited mobility embark and disembark and there is a toilet compartment large enough to accommodate wheelchairs.  The lift is designed to take a Standard Self-Propel Wheelchair, which is 45″ long and 25″ wide.

Kaart en instructies

The Rose of Hungerford is based in Canal Walk just off Hungerford High Street (A338), post code RG17 0EQ. There is limited roadside parking in Canal Walk but there are public car parks in Church Street and at the Station, both of which are approximately 5-10 minutes walk away. Canal Walk is a cul-de-sac so coaches need to drop their passengers off at the entrance to Canal Walk and then park on the road leading through nearby Charnham Park Industrial Estate where there is designated coach parking.
